Cross Leg kitchen table

Quarter sawn Oak table with steel legs

The main feature of this table is simply the Oak, a selected centre board from a large boule of European Oak, approximately 600mm wide by 6 metres long, offering fantastic quarter sawn grain and medullary ray.

The top is glued from 4 selected cuts assembled and matched to make one large top, the bark was cleaned from the outermost boards to create a waney edge detail whilst maintaining the width required. I could have cleaned the 600mm board for a more rustic narrower top, but by re-machining and gluing a top I have achieved a cleaner look, and far more stable top with less future movement.

Walnut Inlay stitch ties.

The original thought was to make benches to match, this would leave the uneven edge to the outside edges, these might have ended sharp and uncomfortable to the back of your knee when in use. The solution was to turn these pointing the waney edges inward and lock them together inlaying a couple of walnut stitches adding structure and an added feature.

Steel fabricated made to order legs powder coated in an anthracite grey create the base and further emphasising the top.

Hopefully you will agree a very successful end result.
