Fitted Media Unit

‘‘This looked a lot smaller during the design process.’’

Made to fill the end of a lounge with a vaulted ceiling. This was a big item of furniture, the detail along with a couple of features made it a little tricky to build.

A traditional butt hinge was chosen over the more modern concealed hinge I often use, this meant swapping the doors to a solid timber construction over Mdf. Whilst doing this this customer wished to see the the grain through the paint. This proved harder than I thought, a fine line to protect the timber and maintain but fill the grain with paint, especially with the water based paint I prefer. After much trial and error I achieved a result I was happy with. (always learning) The intermediate top was glued up from European Oak and was over 3.5m long. The shelves where made from solid Oak to add some strength and prevent any sagging. Small details really do make a massive difference on each project.
